Metal halide sources feature high performance with very bright white light and exceptional color rendering, color stability and lamp-to-lamp color consistency. Not as widely used for outdoor lighting as HPS, Metal halide is still quite popular for roadway and street lighting. Metal halide sources provide lower lumens per watt than LED and HPS sources and do not provide "instant-on" capability so 10-15 minutes of additional time is required for startup or restrike. Dimming is not practical, so intelligent controls options are limited to on/off and monitoring. Metal Halide sources generally last from 10,000 to 20,000 hours.
