LEDs offer an extremely energy efficient solution with a virtually maintenance-free service life that is several times longer than alternative light sources... often exceeding 20 years. LED sources also provide excellent uniformity and a clean, bright white light to enhance color rendering, visual clarity and enhanced security. LED luminaires offer a variety of CCT, lumen packages and distribution options to provide the specifier extraordinary flexibility during design. LED light sources can last from 50,000 to 100,000 hours or longer.
Metal Halide sources feature high performance with very bright white light and exceptional color rendering, color stability and lamp-to-lamp color consistency. Metal Halide sources provide lower lumens per watt than LED and HPS sources and generally last from 10,000 to 20,000 hours.
High Pressure Sodium (HPS) light sources feature highly energy efficient performance with very long life by comparison to other conventional lamps. High pressure sodium lamps last longer than metal halide and produce more lumens per watt, however they are easily recognized by their amber color output and poor color rendering. HPS sources generally last from 12,000 to 24,000 hours.
Compact fluorescent (CFL) luminaires create a soft-edge lighting effect while also achieving energy savings compared to other traditional HID light sources. With higher lumens per watt and longer service life than incandescent light sources, CFL still does not match up to LED in either arena. Fluorescent technology also has a very tight ambient temperature range for optimal performance, making it a less popular choice for very cold environments. CFL sources generally last from 6,000 to 15,000 hours.
